But AI on its own cannot reliably produce a fast, secure, well-designed, SEO-ready business website that you own and can grow. It is excellent for drafts and pieces of the work. It is not a replacement for someone who knows what a business site actually needs.
The honest version: AI is a powerful tool in the right hands, and a way to build something that looks fine but quietly underperforms in the wrong ones.
What AI is genuinely good at
It would be silly to pretend AI is not useful. It is very good at several parts of building a site:
- Drafting copy, so you are not staring at a blank page.
- Generating first-pass images and placeholders.
- Speeding up the technical work for someone who knows how to direct it.
- Answering questions and explaining options in plain language.
- Handling repetitive tasks quickly and cheaply.
Where AI falls short for a business site
The gap shows up in the things that separate a site that exists from a site that works. AI does not know your business, your customers, or your market the way you do, so its strategy is generic. It cannot reliably make a site fast, secure, and built to rank, because those come from judgment and testing, not just generation.
AI-built sites also tend to look and read like everyone else's, which is the opposite of standing out. And there is the ownership question: if a tool generates and hosts your site, do you actually own it, or are you renting again? For something your business depends on, generic and good-enough is a real cost.
How a real designer uses AI
Here is the part most people miss: the best answer is not AI or a human. It is a human using AI well. I use AI every day to work faster, draft, and handle the tedious parts, which is part of how I keep prices reasonable. But the strategy, the design decisions, the speed and security work, and the judgment about what your business needs stay human.
